Moving windows with alt+left mouse button on XP

When using Windows XP I always missed the very practical alt+left mouse button to move windows, and alt+right mouse button to resize windows. All Linux systems have it, and it saves you allot of time moving the mouse and trying to point at the correct place just to move and resize…annoying.

But today I found an utility:

You just run it and voila…Windows suddenly is much more usable

Middle button scroll in VNCViewer on Windows

Using the thinkpad ultranav, middlebutton, to scroll is usefull. But it did not work on vncviewer.exe

This is the fix:

Add
*,*,vncviewer.exe,*,*,*,VkKeys,0,9
to
c:\Programfiler\Synaptics\SynTP\tp4table.dat

Then reboot, or restart the SynTPEnh.exe process.

An old favorite game - Llamatron

I played Llamatron a long time back. And today I found it again.

It plays excellent in Dosbox on Linux. It’s addictive as hell, and the sounds are really funny.

I’m trying to get it to work on my GP2X … I hope it will.

The lazy man’s ultimate tv-guide

* First: I have a Kiss dp-558 with a modified firmware. This allows me to remotely (from my laptop) switch channels, and a lot more.

* Second: TV-Browser (http://www.tvbrowser.org/) is a TV-Guide. It’s incredibly cool, and has plugin support.

I have combined these two with the “Switch Plugin”. I can click on a channel and choose “Switch to” and my Kiss switches to the channel. But this isn’t what is so cool.

* The cool:
You can mark a program in TV-Browser with the “reminder plugin”. You then setup the plugin to send the reminded program to the “Switch plugin”. You mark all the programs you want to watch that evening…and then TV-Browser will change the channel automaticly when the program starts.

It’s the ultimate tool for the extreme lazy tv watcher.

Enjoy.

The Switch plugin in TV-Browser can execute an external program, so you don’t really need a Kiss, but anything that you can send command to…like a remote, will do.

GP2X portable game console

My new toy, the GP2X! A handheld game console running Linux.

This beauty runs every emulator you can think of, C64, Amiga, Dosbox, Mame, Snes, Sega, etc etc. This means tons of games… and fun fun fun.

It looks like this:

Runs on two AA batterys and has a SD-card slot. I’m using a 4GB card now, lots of space.

Some games I have tried, and is working great:
Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein 3D, Keen 1-2-3, Monkey Island (+other scummvm games), BubbleBubble, Duke Nukem 3D, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Bros, Outrun 2, Arkanoid 2, Street Fighter … well, you get the picture.

It can also play movies and mp3… and really anything as long as you can compile the linux program for ARM920 cpu.

Getting Filmtrailers from FilmWeb into FreeVo

FilmWeb is a Norwegian movie site. They have a lot of movie trailers there, along with the premiere date here in Norway.
I have created a php-script that crawls the FilmWeb site and creates FXD-files with url’s, summary and picture. In FreeVo you can then browse all the new trailers and watch then streamed from Web.

Set this script up in your crontab to download every night. (fxd files will be created in the current directory)

Xgl and the AltGr key

After installing Ubuntu Edgy and tried Xgl I suddenly noticed that the AltGr button did not work. So writing $ and any of the {[]} was impossible. (Norwegian keyboard setup).

The solution is simple:

Create the file ~/.Xmodmap

keycode 22 = BackSpace
keycode 113 = Mode_switch

Make sure it loads when loading Xgl

While multiple people at work have been possessed by the game WoW, I avoided the whole thing intentionally. I remember back in the Diablo and Diablo II days. Night after night was ruined and sleep was for the dead…. This time I wanted a life… and I made it…woho
I heard it’s almost impossible to play WoW now, because there are no one that is low level and can help you with tasks and monsters.

I won!! …
Well…ehm… I haven’t played WoW…but I have played multiple old Sierra and Lucas Arts games…but face it, they actually end after a while.

(If Diablo III ever come out, I’m doomed anyway)

Dual head on Nvidia under linux

After getting a projector I wanted to use my HTPC on both the TV and the projector at the same time with the same picture. When I only play music I don’t want to use the projector. But when I play movies…well you know.
